Since 1978, Mitchell Equipment has been designing and manufacturing Railgear systems for the railroad industry. Mitchell’s attachment systems are designed to adapt to a wide variety of vehicles. They offer a complete line of retractable Rail Gear systems that can propel vehicles on railroad tracks. Mitchell offers a large selection of specialty Railgear attachments that can be used in conjunction with Rail Gear. By matching up a specific vehicle with Rail Gear and a series of attachments, a Mitchell Railgear system can be created. Mitchell Railgear systems work every day moving rail cars, replacing railroad rail or handling materials on specialty configured vehicles. Mitchell offers engineering and application assistance, factory installation, training and customer support through a worldwide dealer network.

Mitchell’s Railgear for Trucks is available in many different models and has available features that best fit the individual application. We offer various types of suspension systems that are customized to meet customers’ needs. Railgear models 5050 and 7575 use Spring Ride front and Pivot Ride rear suspension. Railgear movels 1010 and 3333 use Flexiride Suspension while railgear models 0505, 1515, 3535 and 7575T use Mitchell’s Torsion Ride Suspension.

Additionally, Mitchell offers Autoguide Hydraulic Suspension that maintains a constant load on the rail wheels. The system automatically compensates for varying track conditions in order to achieve optimum traction on rail.

SOLUTIONS FOR MACHINES

Mitchell manufactures railgear and attachment systems for rubber tired machines such as Wheel Loaders, Backhoe Loaders, Skidders, Excavators, and cranes.

Mitchell’s railgear solutions include Friction Drive Railgear, Guide Wheel Systems, Magnet Systems, Rail Threaders, Rail Anchor Removers, Tie-Inserters, Ballast Regulators, Tampers, Tie Heads, Tool Circuits, Swing Booms, Brush Cutters, Buckets, Forks, and Railcar Moving Attachment Systems.

FRICTION DRIVE RAILGEAR

RAIL THREADERS

TIE-SWITCHER

Friction Drive Railgear is Mitchell’s Solution for rubber tired machines that require the ability to self-propel on rail and perform work both on and off rail.

Mitchell offers several different models of Rail Threaders that are used in conjunction with friction drive machines to lay rail.

Mitchell’s Tie-Switcher Solution consists of adding special attachments to loader backhoes and excavators to perform railroad tie replacement and railroad spot maintenance. The Tie-Switcher can replace a tie in 2 minutes flat, as well as perform other track maintenance jobs by adding quick attaching tools such as a spike puller, spike driver, ballast regulator, tamper and various buckets.

SOLUTIONS FOR RAILCAR MOVING

Mitchell’s solution for railcar moving is the conversion of highway trucks and construction equipment vehicles into Dual-Purpose Mobile Railcar Movers. Mitchell offers solutions from simple railcar coupler attachments to full-time dedicated mobile railcar movers.

Mitchell’s Hydra-Guide Railgear allows a standard track drive excavator to propel 25 mph on rail. When the system is put in Work Mode the system develops high tractive effort for pulling railcars. The Hydra-Guide system will also guide the excavator on the rail while the excavator tracks drive on the railroad ties. In Guidewheel Mode the excavator has full stability on rail.

Other Mitchell Mobile Railcar Mover systems include Loader Railcar Movers, Railcar Coupler Attachments and Highway Truck Railcar Movers.
